Thanskgiving Weekend Update

Well, I survived Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Now I just need enough energy to clean my house so I can decorate for Christmas. (deep sigh)

Thanksgiving Day was not complicated by the after effects of a cold. I had to work in short spurts of energy, then rest in between. And I, yet again, completely failed at making a decent pumpkin pie. Thank heavens for yogurt pie. Easy, delicious, and low effort.

The day itself was pretty good. Eric and I went to his parents' for breakfast (waffles, yumm!) then back home to cook. Then I went to the church Thanksgiving (as a member of the activities committee I felt obligated to support the event). I made a yogurt pie and brussel sprouts. There was a lot of food, the pie didn't even get touched. Okay, so how can it compete with pumpkin, apple, and berry pies, not to mention the pumpkin cheesecake? It made life a tiny bit easier, though, since I didn't have to make the second one. Hooray!

After that I went to the in-laws to cook some more. My father-in-law picked up my husband (who did not go to the church with me) while I roasted then mashed sweet potatoes, cooked and mashed regular potatoes, made dressing, etc, etc, etc. I confess, I did cheat a little on dinner. I used canned gravy. I didn't think I would have the energy to stand and stir. (I was right.) I had planned on adding brussel sprouts to the menu and brought the leftovers from the church dinner, but my mother-in-law forbade them in her house. In fact, she made me send them with my father-in-law when he went to pick up my husband. Go figure. Next time I make Thanksgiving dinner for them I'm cooking it at my house. And I will serve brussel sprouts!!!! I will also be certain I get the turkey leftovers. My in-laws do not care for leftover turkey, apparently, so my father-in-law put it all in the freezer. By the time I discovered we didn't have any turkey with what we brought home, it was frozen solid. (another deep sigh)
